At the very least, if airlines do not provide the service they sold — flying an airplane on the day and time scheduled — they should pay up. They should issue reimbursements automatically and swiftly. And if they don’t, they should expect to see exactly what’s happening now — paying far more than if they had just done the right thing in the first place, writes Jill Filipovic.
