Nearly two weeks after Nazi Germany invaded the Soviet Union in 1941, Joseph Stalin tried to reassure his nation — already suffering serious battlefield losses to the German blitzkrieg — with the words, “History shows that there are no invincible armies.” In the last year, the Russian army has proved that it too is not invincible.
